Broooadway, Empire State Building and MMarketing

Hmmm, let me recall what I have done in the last few days..

I have seen Pirates of the Caribbean on IMAX in 3D and Hangover 2 (on normal in normal). Pirates was excellent fun, and H2 was equal parts offensive and hilarious. I must find out if Thai people have been offended or not. It may also be heavily censored there. Like when my mum watched KickAss on the plane and told me she really liked it. And I was surprised cos in the cinema version it has the C word, then I had to explain what the C word meant to my mum. Good times.

Hangover 2 also made me homesick for Thailand, good thing I’m going there in August. Watching it you wouldn’t think it would make you feel that way, but they had me at “fanta in a bag”. Orange sodas just taste better in a bag with ice and a straw.

I also went to see the Empire State Building. For a while I’ve been feeling like there is something wrong with me at the moment. I’m in NYC and I’m just thinking “ho hum, another tall building, nicely decorated and a nice view”. But I feel this is because my normal holiday habit of shopping til I drop has been taken from me. This is what living out of a suitcase does. Also, it would be a better time with a friend I think. One good thing is that when I travel by myself I’m pretty patient about queuing and I’m not rushing anywhere.

I’ve also read The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey. It was easy to read and enjoyable.

I went and lined up for tickets to see a broadway show (go patient queuing!) and got 20% off How to succeed in business starring Daniel Radcliffe. It wasn’t much of a discount compared with other shows, but I decided it was the one I was least likely to see again. The show was awesome by the way! Entertaining the whole way through and excellent fun dance numbers. I just got back and took my first taxi ride in New York back to the hotel. I got chatting to the Pakistani taxi driver who has 6 sons back home and all of them are in arranged marriages still going strong.

In my free time before the show I bought tickets to go see the Lion King on broadway tomorrow matinee. No discount, but I figured since I wasn’t buying anything I could splash out a little. Then it started to rain so I popped into a few of the big stores around Time Square. M&m world, toys r us, and Sephora.

Update: photos from empire state building, m&m world and toys r us.

I bought some m&m earrings (fake delicious and travel sized!) and some crazy colored m&ms, including almond and pretzel flavours. I was tempted to ride the ferris wheel in the toys r us, but it’s one of those “better with a friend” things. Although I did get a stranger to take a picture of me posing with the Calico Critters (sylvanian families) display. In Sephora I painted my nails all different colours to match my new shoes. I really like Sephora, it’s a make up shop, and they have cool travel size stuff right by the counters to lure you in. But I resisted dang it!
