Ok, so I guess I better start updating this blog again. Since I have a bit of time to kill now I’m back in Indianapolis I’ll separate it out into separate posts.
So first, the Indy 500 was great. We went shopping on friday for all the supplies. Since J had been before he told us we had to leave crazy early to avoid traffic, he also organized us to park at his friend R’s house. Turns out R’s house was a really sweet location, so actually we didn’t need to leave early and we actually got away pretty fast after the event.
The actual event was cool. Stinking hot day and sitting in the sun meant that I had to be very cautious about sunscreen. Bride1 and I were cheering for Scott Dixon, the kiwi, who had actually won in 2008 I think. J also had Scott Dixon to win in his office betting pool. So it was a lot of fun keeping tabs on how he was doing in the race. He was most often in the top 4 and actually leading for the first 25 laps I think.
Unfortunately on the last lap he was in the top 3, but a car crashed right in front of him and he ended up 6th! Stink!
There was a pretty good party atmosphere going on, but due to the large size of the event and the heat we didn’t wander around too much.
I still find it hard to get used to the American patriotism. Like standing for 2 songs that aren’t even the national anthem (america the beautiful was one of them I think) and standing and waving for troops getting a ride around the track. Not something I am used to.
